Future years

[edit]
    • There is Category:Years in the future, but personally I think most pages there could probably be merged, redirected or deleted. -- User:Docu

Added all applicable articles there. -- Beland 03:35, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Lists of Villages to Categories

[edit]

There are a number of lists which could be directly mapped to categories by an appropriate bot. I put in a request on the bots request page and got directed here. So now I'm asking for each of the lists on the left, would it be possible to check that every article linked (before the see also section) had the category on the right. This seems to be a good way of reusing existing information to make your project easier and more reliable.

etc.. (if you can accept this, we could hunt for more). Azikala 14:42, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Excellent idea. To start implementing this idea, I've extracted a list of such list-to-category opportunities for the US municipal categories. The conversion will be slightly messy, mostly because the categories already exist and are populated, but there are apples-to-oranges problems. I'll have to take some time to work through some problems and post again later. -- Beland 02:08, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Please do not do this for Tennessee as we have merged our cities and towns lists, but the categories remain separate. Kaldari 21:56, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed this discussion. I created a number of "Category:Images of CITY, STATE" categories. The purpose is to identify images separately from articles, so browsing for concepts can be text-oriented while bandwidth-intensive image browsing is supported separately. VA/WV

[edit]

Many of the articles listed on the VA subpage are actually places in WV, many are also either ships (USS Virginia) or women's first names. [[User:Lachatdelarue|Lachatdelarue (talk)]] 14:15, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Oh, I had that problem with Kansas/Arkansas, too. Gurumph. -- Beland 07:53, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)
OK, considering that there should only be a relatively small number of articles left to categorize, and since all articles need to be categorized anyway, the solution to this problem is simply to find a parent category for all articles that are listed, whether or not they have anything to do with the state. Then they won't appear on future scans. And please excuse Kansas/Arkansas and Virginia/West Virginia confusion; I guess there's a reason why humans are still involved in this loop. 8) -- Beland 00:38, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Don't worry about it... us humans can figure it out and the extract will get too confusing. Besides, this way I have learned a lot about Georgia the country too... :) Sortior 03:08, Dec 28, 2004 (UTC)

Help requested with Category:Albums by artist

[edit]

This category is huge, hundreds and hundreds of subcategories. Because of this, only about 3 letters at a time are shown. It takes quite a bit of time to get to the end of the alphabet. I'm wondering about the following options:

1) Is there any way to make a table of contents for a category? I tried A, etc... but that didn't work. Is there any way to do this?

2) If that is not possible, I created a new subcategory Category:Albums by artist: A-Z, but it would take forever to move everything into new subcategories. Can this process be automated?

Thanks, Samuel Wantman 07:15, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Is this the right place ?

[edit]

Well, I would like an automated of categories to the simplified Category:Comic creators. I added a section in this page's article. Is the right place for putting this request ? Lvr 14:44, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Is this the right place? (reprise)

[edit]

I would like to move all the articles listed on Abstract strategy (which is essentially a list page) from Category:Board games to a new subcategory Category:Abstract strategy games. Is there an automated way to do this and is this the right place to ask for help with it? Thanks. —Blotwell 04:56, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

question

[edit]

Would it be helpful if I created a list of long articles that have no category? Martin 11:02, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
