Second Sentence Seems Like Bullsh*t

[edit]

Like the title says. It seems to me that you can't make a claim like that unless you're willing to label every Western liberal democracy as 'authoritarian' or 'totalitarian'. Organisations, programs, systems dedicated to spying on citizens... Have we forgotten what Edward Snowden exposed? Finch-WingedHussar (talk) 02:31, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Snowden is a hypocrite who sold his soul to Putin's Russia. He exposed dubious practices by Western intelligence agencies, sure, but he is strangely silent about the heinous recent actions of his new hosts. He was willing to risk things when exposing the sins of the West, but is not willing to take similar risks by commenting on Russia's sins. Hmmm... 2A0A:EF40:122D:7801:9840:7E14:1C33:BCEA (talk) 13:53, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These aren't 'similar risks' - he would be guaranteed to lose everything if he were to attack Putin, too, because there is no place left for him to flee to. Every country is either a US ally or a Russian ally. The man obviously wants to have a life and personal happiness now and he has that right - he has already made a far greater sacrifice for his principles than most people ever do. You have no right to ask him to commit harakiri as punishment for having defended Americans' rights. As far as I remember, he expected to be able to return to the US soon after the scandal, because he thought that the Western public would appreciate his sacrifice and would pressure politicians to pardon him. It is not his fault that he overrated the Western public, which has, overall, proved unworthy of this sacrifice and willing to accept the infringement of its own rights; and that such a large part of said public, like you, actually wants the person who defended its rights to be punished for it and the intelligence agencies to be able to do whatever they want to it.--62.73.72.3 (talk) 16:09, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should the frumentarii be added to the list of secret police forces? I💖平沢唯 (talk) 04:56, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
