Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations. ~ G.B.Shaw more -

About me
[edit]Hello, my name is Samuel Klein. To reach me: talk page messages will receive the fastest response. If you have suggestions about how to improve aspects of the Projects or Wikimedia as a whole, please share them on the Meta wiki. You can also send me email ( meta.sj@gmail). I was a member of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees for three terms, and sometimes think about project-wide issues.
I am a Wikipedian, a one laptop per child organizer, a Crimson mathematics and physics geek, a compulsive proofreader, and a long-time Bostonian. Currently working on an innovation information initiative. I thought Wikipedia Zero was the best thing since Wikipedia One. I edited How Wikipedia Works (published with no starch[1]), a GFDL book aimed at reducing community barriers to entry for new Wikipedians. I aspire to curiositate. See my blog for more.
My favorite page remains+ the Wikipedia:Backlog.
I work to help groups improving the open Internet find legal and technical support in all jurisdictions, and to extend Wikidata-style knowledge bases into open knowledge networks.
I have had this account since early 2004, when WP officially became more interesting and instructive than Universities and coursebooks. I am an administrator here and on the Nahuatl and Swahili Wikipedias, and was a steward for the other Wikimedia projects at one point; if you need assistance with a small project that does not currently have active administrators, you can ask me for help or find a steward or global sysop.
I sometimes speak and write about Wiki[p|m]edia, and organizing local, continental, and international community events. We have great opportunities to grow through related projects, and supported or participated in a special projects committee, community-run communication and grant-writing processes, and data analysis. Curious about: Indexing lists of reliable sources
Outside of the wikis, I work with other collections of knowledge: expanding citations and innovation catalogs, improving global annotations (hypothesis: noch nicht komplett), identifying and freeing large data repositories and publications owned by well-meaning but copyright-confused people and groups. In 2018 I co-founded the Knowledge Futures Group. In 2013 I became a Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society. In 2011 I started working on the Digital Public Library of America, which borrowed much of its free-knowledge focus and transparent participatory governance model from Wikipedia. In 2006, I became director of content for the One Laptop per Child foundation, helping to distribute access to these collections and the ability to contribute to them. I also enjoy synchronizing translations and bringing together translators to work on global projects. My Erdős–Bacon number is 8. I have an xdi sj-entity, but no .sj domain (Svalbard and Jan Mayen still does not seem to allow registrations. If you know of exceptions to this policy, or Norwegian royalty that need heroic feats accomplished, let me know.).
Things I love: physics, CSP, language, The City++++++, perma-tools, music, poetry, color, nature,
meta-lists, stub-sorters, Life, F*C, Cups
Things I loathe: simple dichotomy, navels, myopia, wanton arrogation, stasis addiction, discorporation.
Things I miss: all-hands public debates about the projects, quartile updates, GFDL flamewars, single-page VfD (sic), Rambot debates, writing contests, corporate entities flaming Wikipedia, weekly Tilman-style updates, universal Wiktionary, multilingual wikipedia-l threads, the promise of multilingual talk-pages.
Things I am not:
SJ, /SJ, e-SJ, sj,
Sjakkalle, Sjc(+),
Sjc196, SJK, SJK', SJKissane,
Sjorford, Essjay, -R, a Hazard, Kepler, a sj phone, bearded woodsman sjklein,
Swedish rail,
a Jesuit society, Gambro's CIO, an antique diarist,
a My-Br temperament, an arctic isle, a moral lawyer, a Burgess bird, a department store, a fabricated Sox fan, racter, a Giant, Shark, library, a Wodak, a musical Tucker, a beer judge, or ED of a Coexistence Trust. I do not recall publishing hospice research with Jimbo, nor attending Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity dressed as a tea bag. I do hoard Klein bottles, and look snappy in a trenchcoat, but did not model for Levine's detective Sam Klein or Harry's Underlayer.
Titles I have added:
Most Formidable Lord and Master of the Encyclopædia Britannica

In parting: "Humanity will be destroyed in about a billion years due to increasing sun temperature, and in about five billion years we'll be engulfed by the sun. Hopefully by then we will have colonized other planets, but if we haven't, Wikipedia will be destroyed."
