The pages in this category are redirects from the scientific names of organisms to common names. To add a redirect to this category, place {{Rcat shell|{{R from scientific name}}}} on the second new line (skip a line) after #REDIRECT [[Target page name]]. For more information follow the links. This is a maintenance category, used for maintenance of the Wikipedia project. It is not part of the encyclopedia and contains non-article pages, or groups articles by status rather than subject. Do not include this category in content categories. This is a tracking category. It builds and maintains a list of pages primarily for the sake of the list itself. They are not part of the encyclopedia's categorization scheme. This category is hidden on its member pages—unless the corresponding user preference (Appearance → Show hidden categories) is set. These categories can be used to track, build and organize lists of pages needing "attention en masse" (for example, pages using deprecated syntax), or that may need to be edited at someone's earliest convenience. These categories also serve to aggregate members of several lists or sub-categories into a larger, more efficient list (discriminated by classifications).

Pages in this category should be moved to subcategories where applicable. This category may require frequent maintenance to avoid becoming too large. It should directly contain very few, if any, pages and should mainly contain subcategories.

• Redirects can be subcategorized using {{R from scientific name|ORGANISM-TYPE}}. Current valid values are: alga, amphibian, animal, arthropod, bacteria, bird, crustacean, fish, fungi, insect, mammal, microorganism, mollusc, plant, reptile, spider and virus. Other values may be useful in the future, but for now will place the page into Category:Redirects from scientific names using unknown values for parameter 1.

Note that the term "scientific name" refers only to organismal nomenclature. For terms used in the science community, see also {{R from technical name}} and {{R from systematic name}}. For redirects from one scientific name to another (e.g. from a synonym to the currently accepted name), use {{R from alternative scientific name}}.
