Mediation
[edit]Please see Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Aesthetic Realism so that we may begin the mediation. -- Essjay · Talk 02:08, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, please start mediation already. -Willmcw 19:30, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Who is Samivel?
[edit]- (moved from Talk:Aesthetic Realism by Willmcw 19:34, 17 October 2005 (UTC))
Samivel, are you APerey? I ask because your editing styles are dramatically similar. (You know, a gazillion tiny edits in a row, changing commas and prepositions.) The style and manner of your attempts to discredit AR's critics are pretty similar, too. And significantly, you have edited *zero* other articles on Wikipedia besides this one, yet you seem to be very familiar with Wikipedia. And of course when you showed up APerey mysteriously disappeared. So I'm asking, are you APerey? I'm not stating that you are, I'm asking. Thanks, Michaelbluejay 17:46, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
I am Samivel
[edit]I am Samivel. I no longer want to use a name as close to my own in editing. However, I am advised that to prevent the accusation of sockpuppet I need to make it clear that the new username is me. When the capacity to merge the 3 names I've used, plus my IP, is available on Wiki I will do so. -- Arnold Perey 20 October 2005
Talk pages
[edit]Please do not edit or remove the talk page entries of other users. -Willmcw 00:40, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure what you were doing here: [1], but it appears as if you edited and/or deleted the comments of another editor. Also, as I've asked you before, please don't interpolate your comments into another editor's - it makes it very difficult to follow the original remark. Thanks, -Willmcw 20:10, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
Mediation
[edit]Hi, Samivel. Yes, I am the new mediator, but that's no reason to panic. Essjay's taking a break from the mediation committee, apparently, so I was chosen by the chairman as his replacement for this case. Please add Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Aesthetic Realism to your watchlist, because information about the reassignment has been available there for longer than Michael Bluejay's message on the talk page. Andre (talk) 02:21, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Received, and I have replied. Andre (talk) 02:54, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

- Hello again. How long have you being editing Wikipedia? You say you had a previous account, how long did you have it for? Do you know how things work here? Izehar 20:32, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, I too have a previous account. I left Wikipedia for a while and when I came back, I had forgotten the password. So I had to make a new account and be accused of sockpuppetry. If you don't want to be acused of sockpuppetry, you should leave a notice on WP:ANI telling the administrators that you have changed account and that you would like them to indefinetly block your old one so that you can't use it as a sockpuppet. Reverts
[edit]I saw you posted this question as an edit summary:
- Do I have to apply for special permission to revert 12 times in 24 hours, since CDThieme, Michaelbluejay et al are beginning to take turns and each has 3 reverts?
The simple answer is "no," you cannot obtain permission for additional reverts. WP:3RR does not apply to simple vandalism but none of the edits that you've reverted count as Wikipedia:vandalism. The best approach is to develop a consensus on the talk page that everyone can agree to. -Willmcw 00:11, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- This was a wry joke. Still, a case can be made that these are vandalism. --samivel 16:17, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- No, their edits have not been vandalism. See Wikipedia:vandalism. Editors who cry "vandalism" in cases of POV disputes do not help their own cases. -Willmcw 22:08, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Archiving
[edit]When archiving, please do not remove active discussions. You've done that several times now. -Willmcw 17:05, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't realize. I am going to read all the guidelines to make sure I know all the rules. --samivel 20:48, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Margaret Mead
[edit]I hope by now you have thoroughly reviewed Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. If you have not yet, or if your sense of them is shaky, please reread them carefully. Then, go to the Margaret Mead page. review the last five or ten edits and look at the bottom of the talk page. Any intervention you make will fall flat or backfire if you do not comply to NOR and NPOV fanatically. But if you do comply with them, I think we may need an intervention from you in the next few days, or weeks. Slrubenstein | Talk 21:39, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- I am glad to see you are still active. From what I can tell, there has been little activiety on the Mead page. However, based on the recent comment on the talk page, I imagine there will be more activity soon. So please, just keep an eye on it. Thanks, Slrubenstein | Talk 20:35, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
- Also, I agree with your interpretation that DF's critique in no way contradicts MM's central argument. However, I cannot say that in the article, nor can you, as it would violate NOR. However, if we can find articles or book reviews that say so, we can quote and cite them. Some time ago I used AnthroSource to see what has been published on mead-Freeman and it did seem that the overwhelming majority of articles questioned Freeman; some of them also placed the debate in a broader context. My current situation is such that I will not be able to work on the article much, so I appreciate your keeping an eye on it. In my experience, supporters of Freeman usually put in their own reasons for liking his arguments — which violates NOR and NPOV. What they should be doingis quoting published articles. And that would be the effective response, to quote published articles (which in some ways has more weight than the AAA resolution, not that I knock it) in order to educate readers as to how anthropologists really responded to the controversy. News from Esperanza
[edit]Hello, fellow Esperanzians! This is just a friendly reminder that elections for Administrator General and two advisory council positions have just begun. Voting will last until Friday, December 30, so make sure you exercise your right to vote! Also, I'm pleased to announce the creation of the Esperanza mailing list. I urge all members to join; see Wikipedia:Esperanza/Contact for more information. All you need to do is email me and I will activate your account. This will be a great way to relax, stay in touch, and hear important announcements. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?)

An Esperanzial note
[edit]As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.
In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Another Esperanzial note...
[edit]Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Old Skool Esperanzial note
[edit]Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update
[edit]As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Ruth Benedict
[edit]Hi - Great work on Ruth Benedict. You mention in the discussion page that Benedict's posthumous essay on synergy led to the word entering the language. Can you write more about that? Or, cite to it, and I'll try to dig it up? If she is the source of the word, then it should definitely be included in the synergy article. --LQ 15:57, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

- Unsourced for three years
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
