Can anyone verify this?
The Islands history took a blow in 1972 when an El Al flight from Tel Aviv landed full of terrorists who took control of the aiport and declared Vagar as an Israeli outpost and that the Faroe Islands were now part of Israel including Waveland. The offical language was changed to Hebrew and Vagar became 'Jew City' with 10 new Synagogues built within the week from Cardboard and Sheepskin. A new circumcision ward was added to Jew City General Hospital, opened by Rabbi Bum-Mashalahek, and was put into immediate use. Natives were not pleased with the new administration and many refused to use Hebrew as their first language - a new form of Faeroese circulated called 'New Faeroese - Neu Føroyst' which was made illegal within the week. Eventually the Terrorists realised that they achieved nothing by capturing the Islands and had basically just pissed everyone off for 3 years. Faeroese control was reinstated on 23rd June 1975.

The only airport?
[edit]I find it hard to believe that Vágar is the only airport in the Faroes. --Bjarki 19:44, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- But it is. Domestic flights are done by helicopters, and they have landing places in a few villages and cities. The natural conditions make it hard to build another airport, but maybe they will build one on Sandoy in the future. This new airport will replace the old one. -- Arne List 12:24, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Addition: People are just talking about, that there is need for an alternative airport. So maybe, in the next 10 years, there will be another airport by side of Vágar. This has weather reasons: In the summer, there is a lot of fog, and if they had another airport, the chance to reach the Faroes under such circumstances is much higher (on one island can be fog, on the other bright sunshine at the same hour) -- Arne List 19:51, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
