The following comment was left in the article by User:George Cohen:
No commentators or musicologists seem to have questioned GM's having gone off to Paris at age 10 (sic) in order to study with Lully; nor have I ever seen mention of what documentary evidence supports this date. Some modern sorces, however, have given his birth year as "ca.1645". Clearly, there is a question mark hanging over this. Doesn't ca.1645 seem more likely?
Regarding the "Apparatus" (1690): GM says something to the effect that although his Toccatas derive their ultimate inspiration from Frescobaldi, they are not quite the same thing. What he doesn't say, and to date no one seems to have noticed, is that he was obviously tremendously influenced by the Toccatas of JK Kerll. GM's Toccatas reek of Kerll at almost every page: Musical figures and figuration, procedures, ideas (local, or sectional), rhythmic figures, and exact copying of harmonic sequences abound, to the point of plagiarism. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by George Cohen (talk • contribs) .
