"Provincial" highway 1?

In Canada, roads and highways fall under the authority of provincial governments (as does health care and education for example); hence the designation as provincial highways. --Qyd 16:12, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

True: But even in the US, each state has jurisdiction over the sections of interstates inside their borders. But nobody would refer to the Washington state section of I-5 as "Washington State Highway 5." I can see the Ontario and Quebec sections as being provincial highways, as they post provincial hwy. sheilds along the TCH alongside--inconsistently placed, and numberless--TCH signs, and use their own numbers within their borders, but in western Canada, that's not the case, as there is an interprovincial numbering/signage system in place. Exit 57 (192st Surrey)

I've never actually used it, but I believe that not only is the only onramp on the westbound side, but the only offramp headed east as well. I'm not sure of a good way to describe this in the bullet points, but it merits mention, I believe. Currently it seems like it's a full interchange, but you can only enter the westbound lanes if you're headed south on 192st, which is definitely not the case.Ktims 01:36, 20 December 2006 (UTC)→

B class?

This is a great article. Well written and informative. But there's no references or footnotes.. just one external link.. so it fails B-class criteria unfortunately. OlEnglish (talk) 03:14, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Tab System

I have set up a new page tab system that will move the exit list to a new tab; this may help increase a reader's focus onto the main article while still being able to obtain access to an exit list, if necessary. This will also speed up page loading times, since half the article (and content) just got moved to a separate location. Might also set this up with other highways around the province, especially those featuring very long exit lists.

Unfortunately, I've had to revert the tab setup. As far as I can tell, the template is not intended for use in articles. Your implementation here was the only instance in article space using it. (IIRC, the style guide also prohibits article sub-pages.) Other options might be to collapse the template, so that readers can open it as desired. --Ckatz^chat_spy 08:47, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Trivia

I've removed the following from the article for a couple of reasons: Trivia sections are to be avoided; this is different from the average trivia, but is still not really encyclopædic; i found difficulty in understanding each section, the grammar and structure are not clear, nor within the style guidelines ("Since then...", "To solve the problem...", &c.); the second part, if it is accurate, belongs, rewritten clearly, in the appropriate section of the article; the first part refers to a "similar situation" which no longer exists ~ so what!? I leave the cut-out chunk here, in case anyone is desparate enough to rework it & put is back. Cheers, Lindsay^Hi 11:55, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

• Two separate exits in each direction are given the number "28A". One leads to Grandview Hwy and the other leads to Boundary Rd. The problem is, there is no "Exit 28B", although some maps mark the Grandview Hwy exit "28B". To solve the problem, each exit can be renumbered "28", but that has not been implemented as a certain undertaking. A similar situation is found on Highway 99 in the north part of Richmond, although it has since been renumbered.
• Since then, a new traffic light configuration that replaced the slip-ramp configuration from Route 1 to Keith Rd. has been installed, with the flyover removed and the Argyle Ave. to Route 1 NB ramp removed (though the Bay St. to Route 1 SB ramp remains). This makes the actual freeway start at the Marine Dr. overpass at Exit 0, instead of at the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal as most people denote it.

Measurement precision

The measurement of distances along the highway to the nearest 0.01 km (10 metres) seems excessively precise to me. Anyone happen to know if this is based on a style guide or similar? I would propose modifying that to the nearest 0.1 km only (100 metres) which seems like a more reasonably level of precision. Musser (talk) 19:47, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Work on Article

@SounderBruce Hello Bruce. I noticed you are working on this article. What do you have planned besides the Upper Levels? Currently I am doing a write-up on the freeway section from the Ironworkers to Hope and I am wondering if you are doing the same. @Allthecows: I'm planning on rewriting the Route description from scratch (given that it was deleted previously under less-than-ideal circumstances). I've taken a look at your sandbox and the sourcing looks good, but I recommend cleaning up the punctuation and using Newspapers.com clippings rather than image pages (which can't be accessed by non-subscribers). If you don't have a subscription, you can get one through WP:TWL. I'm currently working on Highway 99 and am having a little trouble finding map sources; if you have any pointers, I'm all ears. OK, in that case I think I will continue the history I've written for Highway 1

I have a few maps in my collection

They are:

1957 B.C. Gov't Map (this has no insets, only in low detail shows highway 99 go to Horseshoe Bay on a black line (dashed line to Squamish)

1959 Shell Map with Vancouver Inset (pretty detailed, shows highway 99 going over Lions Gate and on what appears to be the upper levels)

1960 B.C. Gov't Map

1962/63 BC Government map

1964/63 Government map

The last three all have insets, but they're huge insets of Southern Vancouver Island, Puget Sound area and Greater Vancouver, so they don't show detail

There are also two good maps in the Vancouver Archives that have cartography by H.M. Gousha (I personally think Gousha maps are the most historically accurate compared to other cartographers),

I have other government maps but I'm not sure how useful they would be.
