[edit]The Igor Tamm article says that he was a mentor to Leonid Isaakovich Mandelshtam "in science and in life," while the Leonid Isaakovich Mandelshtam article says that he was a mentor to Igor Tamm. Since Mandelshtam was 16 years older than Tamm, it's probably just Mandelshtam who was a mentor to Tamm, unless the relationship was something other than that of a mentor.
The article now reads: "Tamm was born in Vladivostok... in an Estonian family migrated to the Far East". Being Tamm's great-grandson I know for sure that it is (the Estonian part) 100% wrong. Tamm was 25% German (from where his last name comes from), 25% Russian, 25% Ukrainian, and 25% Georgian, as far as I know. Moreover, original Latin transliteration of his family name was Thamm (or even Tham), he changed it himself while studying in Edinburgh. The result happened to coincide with a common Estonian family name - thus the "Estonian trace". Finally, I'm not sure that the family "migrated to the Far East". In fact, Tamm's father was appointed as a bridge engineer during the construction of the Trans-Siberian railway, and returned to Ukraine immediately after the work was done. Yours sincerely, Mikhail Tamm 195.91.218.129 11:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

"The memoirs of Andrei Sakharow cite Igor Tamm having a connection to the development of Sovjet atomic bomb although he remained in his institute also for health reasons. He was not a member "thermonuclear reaction" team but was aware of the plan and, in my recollection, discussed it or related technical topics.
I can not put this on display because my books are now outside the reach of my hands. But others can easily chck and append the bio. " —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.154.88.75 (talk) 19:52, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I believe that English version of Tamm's page may include at least some essential facts, which are well presented in the Russian version.Below are some additions. Among Tamm's doctoral students were:С. П. Шубин (S.P. Shubin), Е. Л. Фейнберг (E.L. Feinberg), В. Л. Гинзбург (V.L.Ginsburg), Л. В. Келдыш (L.M.Keldjsh), М. А. Марков (M.A.Markov), А. Д. Сахаров (A.D.Saharov), В. Г. Кадышевский (V.G.Kadjshevskii) All of them are very well know scientists; two become Nobel Laureats - V.L. Ginsburg (Nobel Prize in Physics 2003) and A.D.Saharov (Nobel Peace Prize in 1975) (121.218.78.193 (talk) 03:42, 3 February 2012 (UTC)A.Ruvinsky121.218.78.193 (talk) 03:42, 3 February 2012 (UTC))

Quotation
[edit]- I regret that I don't have a reference for this quotation (apparently said by Igor Tamm) to hand! This is regrettable, because I have seen a very similar quotation attributed to Werner von Braun! Nevertheles, here it is:
- "Research is what I'm doing, when I don't know what else I'm doing."
Russian websites
[edit]The following Russian websites have been used as references, and it's difficult for me to assess whether or not they are reliable sources. Can someone please describe the nature and reliability of http://gimn1567.ru/ , http://elib.biblioatom.ru/ , http://www.famhist.ru/ , and http://www.peoples.ru/ ? Perhaps User:Galassi? - These look pretty reliable. All russophone bios of Tamm state that he was born into German and Russian noble family, unequivocally nonJewish, so much so that his father was classified as volksdeutsche and was untouched during German WW2 occupation.--Galassi ([[User talk:|talk]]) 13:49, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Galassi: What does "look pretty reliable" mean, though? Can you tell me more about these sites? Jayjg (talk) 12:47, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
