Reunions
[edit]Gaudies are not always reunions of old members. For example, because in the middle ages members of the Queen's College could not return to the north of England over the winter break, two major feasts were held, the Boar's Head Gaudy on Christmas Day and the Needle and Thread Gaudy held on New Years Day. The former is now the major Gaudy for old members and is held just before Christmas. I believe the latter is still held in January, but it is not a reunion. Note also that Queen's now has a Gaudy Lunch on matriculation day for those who matriculated 50 years ago. The "three consecutive matriculation years" may be followed in some colleges, but not in all. My experience at Queen's is that it is two consecutive years plus one or more years from much further back where the number of old members is now rather small. I would also add that Queen's, at least, holds an old members dinner every year and this has all the features of a Gaudy. It is open to all old members on a first come, first served basis. We need to make sure that this artcile reflects practice across the university. --Bduke 00:59, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
"Farkin" events at Dundee
[edit]If you wish to include events based around pseudo-histories and fictitious characters, they must be specified as such. Dundee has never had a "Lord Mayor" and there are certainly no records of a Lord Provost of such a name.
Any reversions should be treated as vandalism. Have a nice day, now.Steelwool (talk) 16:34, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
terms needing explanation
[edit]Please explain "college invasions", "green breakfast", "the issue" of junior students, "Bejant/Bejantine", a "Raisin Weekend", a "Raison string", "graduate alumni" (is there any other kind?), etc. It is fine for these places to rejoice in their traditions, but this is Wikipedia.--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 11:22, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
University of Cambridge
[edit]Are we to assume that the University of Cambridge does not have this tradition? --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 11:23, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

When?
[edit]Can anyone explain when Gaudies are held? Is there a Gaudy season, or do Gaudy dates vary widely by college or university? 84.9.16.97 (talk) 22:44, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
