about the "the" in Four Swords

The title screen shows The. Therefore, should the naming reflect this, or not? Master Thief Garrett 11:04, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Whereabouts is the title screen to which to you are refering to? I own the ALttP cartridge for GBA and while I admit I have never played the game due to lack of people to play it with, I am able to see the begining video and title screen, which just says Four Swords, the same as the other screens when booting up the cartridge and selecting which game to play.
However, even if there was another screen which uses the, I would stick with not having it, as everywhere else is just Four Swords and I believe that to be the official title, as it is listed as such on the official Zelda site, as well as a number of other places. On the adjective "of or pertaining to Hyrule"

Well as far as I am aware, there was never an official term for a while, and most, if not all, fans used Hyrulian, but then a little while ago Nintendo said that Hyrulean was the official and correct term, hence Hyrulean Adventure in Four Swords Adventures. If Nintendo don't reply a good person to ask for confirmation would be TSA, as he is probably the most well versed person when it comes to Zelda, at least amongst English speakers anyway. Sister theory

Hey, I noticed you deleting some text regarding the theory that Link and Zelda are siblings. I think you're correct. I did some checking and his uncle in Zelda 3 does not say "is your sis..." (he actually says "Zelda is your... ..."), nor do they really seem to have similar features. Moreover, in Zelda 3, it specifically says that Zelda is of the bloodline of the seven wise men, while Link is the last of the bloodline of the Knights. I'm not sure where that stuff about their mother being the queen comes from - I don't even remember any of the games having a queen in it. If anyone contests this change I'll support you. Yeah while I have never played the SNES version of ALttP myself, I do have the GBA version, and have heard stuff from reliable sources, including GANNON-BANNED, about the sister thing. Basically Nintendo's translation was still fairly shoddy back then, but in the updated version is has been changed to something along the lines of "It is your destiny to save Zelda" which is a more accurate translation. As to the whole his mother being queen thing, I cannot remember anything about that being in the game, nor have I seen that theory anywhere else before. While it is possible that I have forgotten, I think it best to remove it unless evidence can be found of any such implication. Ian Moody 08:03, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

Re: Hero of Time

I beleive I made this clear. OoT is a prequal to The Legend of Zelda (original), Adventure of Link is a continuance of that. I beleive the Link in A Link to the Past is a descendant of the original, and I'm uncertain whether or not that is the same Link that appears in Link's Awakening or from OoT (original Link). Either way, Link is the Hero of Time, whether he is the original, or a descendant of the original. It's a sort of hereditary thing that spans across all time, hence the title "Hero of Time". Peer review

This edit indicates that you reverted the peer review that I closed due to the large amounts of useful comments on elevating Majora's Mask. Ska-punk & Third Wave

These are very different things. Third Wave is a blanket term for the rise in popularity of Ska, which includes not only ska-punk but a revival of traditional ska, or the marriage of soul & r&b with ska that was popular in the States. Note how little The Aquabats and the Impossibles sound alike, or the nineties' Israelities and MU330. The problem is that most of your edits to wikipedia seem to consist of adding links to landofthelegend.net, which resumably you have some affilication with. This is considered linkspam, ie adding a link to a site so people will go to it and increase your advertising revenue. Now some of these links add to the article, and should therefore be kept despite you adding them for personal gain, however several don't or are used to replace other links or more authorative sources, not to mention the fact you seem to like adding them to the top of the external links section so they are seen first. — Ian Moody ^(talk) 18:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Template:Kalnoky album infobox

I just wanted to let you know that the new functionality was recently added to the Template:Album infobox so it is now possible to define chronology for more than one artist in the infobox (as in The Echoing Green / The W's Split EP article). This makes the template you created obsolete and I hope you don't mind if I convert the infoboxes using the Template:Kalnoky album infobox and then redirect it to the Template:Album infobox. Unfortunatly there is a clash in how images are handled. With {{Kalnoky album infobox}} you define the entire image link, allowing varying sizes (for images smaller than 200px, such as Rules of the Game) and also multiple images, as in the A Call to Arms article, whereas in {{Album infobox}} it only accepts the image name. — Ian Moody ^(talk) 19:22, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Adding one extra parameter allows varying the size of the image (like this). The issue of multiple album covers in the album infobox was recently discussed at WikiProject Albums (see the discussion). We agreed that stacking the images in the upper part of the infobox is not an ideal solution so the Extra album cover template was proposed. This can be accomplished using the working version of the Extra album cover template. How do you like it? Don't you agree that improving the Album infobox and making it more flexible is better than using separate infoboxes in special situations? Jogers (talk) 20:23, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you greatly. The size issue was the only real problem I had, as the RotG cover looks bad enough as is, and is even worse upscaled. I agree that multiple images are not preferable—I actually think the way it is in ACtA is rather ugly but was too lazy to do anything about it—and the solution you've provided is, in my opinion, very elegant. I'd be more than happy to convert all the articles to {{Album infobox}} once User:Ed g2s' edits are undone (though RotG shall have to wait until the size parameter gets added). — Ian Moody ^(talk) 20:44, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Legend of Zelda Categories

As someone who has previously voted or commented at the recent CfD discussion about the naming of Legend of Zelda categories, I thought I would let you know that I have started a new discussion in an attempt to reach a consensus. The current position of having 2 sets of categories serving the exact same purpose is unsustainable, and we need to reach a consensus on which set should be removed. If you have previously voted on this proposal, I would ask you to reconsider your vote, and ask yourself whether you are willing to give a little ground in order to reach a compromise. A few "Zelda-related" things

Ian Moody:

I have a few questions about your recent edits, etc., and would like to explain my reasoning.

With Template:Zelda-stub: First of all, words like "pointless" and "horrible" do nothing of value at all in edit summaries... Otherwise, my edits were merely for conformity and correctness. As I can see above on this page, you obviously have your own opinions on the correct spelling of "(The) Legend of Zelda." Nevertheless, as it was decided (and is officially), "The Legend of Zelda" is how the name should appear on Wikipedia. While "Zelda" is fine in common, colloquial usage as a shortcut term, it is informal and should be replaced by the formal name where possible in article namespace, which includes template namespace by transclusions. In the formal tone expected of Wikipedia, using just "Zelda" sounds (to someone unfamiliar with the series) like a reference to the character Princess Zelda, not the series of video games. Moreover, the WikiProject link should have the article "The" in it as does the WikiProject main page itself. As for italics, the correct way to italicize something that is already in italics is to remove the italics. So,

"This The Legend of Zelda series article..."

would be the correct form. Mostly these are formalities, but as such they should be honored in a structured encyclopedia. I replaced the (div) tags with wikitable syntax to try and keep the template from having an odd indent, as it does now. On review, most CVG stub templates use (div)s and HTML (table) tags, so I'm also welcome to the current CVG stub standard. My intent was only to remove the indent.

With Template:Zelda games: Again, "stupid" just shows that your reversion was based on personal opinion and therefore unfounded. If you did in fact look at WP:ZELDA#Templates, you would see that I have reformatted all the templates to a syntactical standard that is aesthetically pleasing and also makes sense. Because clients have the ability to alter text size in their browsers, the line breaks and lack of width definition in the table allow that the text doesn't draw attention and wrap oddly as the text or window sizes are adjusted. The lack of width definition lets the table shrink to a more square, or preferrably golden ratio-based, shape. All the tables now are formatted to this standard.

I ask, please discuss this obvious differences of opinion on talk pages first -- that's what they're there for, of course, and it saves a lot of spiteful edit wars and angered feelings. I'm welcome to any opposing arguments about the styles of these pages, just let us all know.

Finally, if you have noticed, your submission of Image:Triforce.svg has been removed from the templates by User:Durin under fair use copyright ruling. If you did create this .svg image yourself, I believe that the image could be refiled under a free license such as {{PD-self}} or {{GFDL-self}}. While the stacked golden triangle symbol is (probably) a copyrighted idea when taken in the Zelda context, the icon you provided is NOT an official icon provided by Nintendo or the video games. It is just a facsimile, which is not copyrighted, created to represent the idea of the Triforce, which is copyrighted. Thus, using a free license template could allow us to put this image back into the templates and userboxes, etc.

My edits to {{Zelda-stub}} had nothing to do with the use of "the" and my reversion to the old text was simply due to me not noticing you had changed it, I apologise (While we are on the subject however I would ask you to read all the related comments on Talk:The Legend of Zelda series. I , like yourself, originally believed "Legend of Zelda" should always have "The" on the front, believing it to be more correct. However several of the comments on that page convinced me that "the Legend of Zelda series" is more grammatically correct and elegant). I was instead editing it to bring it more in line with {{Stub}}, in particular the comments at Template talk:Stub#tag type, id vs. class, and style info, and also remove the horrible use of tables for layout. I am well aware of italic conventions and my omission was merely an oversight.

As to {{Zelda games}} my edit was to take differing resolutions and text sizes into account, particularly small screens (or large text sizes) where the use of set line breaks makes the arrangement of the games look haphazard and wrap oddly. Also please don't refer to WP:ZELDA#Templates as some kind of "standard" as it was determind by yourself with no visible discussion anywhere and is your own POV.

And I take fault in using the word "standard" in my reference -- my intent was to imply that now there is at least a standard by which all the templates abide, not that the formatting I created was the standard that all should follow. Ajax vs. AJAX?

Is there any reason you have rewritten “AJAX” to be “Ajax” in the Cross-platform article? AJAX is an acronym, and as such it should be properly capitalized. Ajax is the original method of spelling/writing the acronym, please see the article and the origin of the term. Also acronyms don't necessarily need to be capitalised in my experience, as the point of them is to create pronoucable words rather than a series of initials, and many acronyms are in fact not commonly capitalised, such as laser and radar. — Ian Moody ^(talk) 15:45, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

This logo features prominently in the upper left of that page, and is also the icon used as the avatar for the website. At the bottom of that website it says "© 1986-2006 Nintendo". Unless you can show that this image has been released into the public domain or under some other free license by Nintendo, the image must remain as copyrighted protected and used under terms of fair use here on Wikipedia. • It's a copyrighted image protected by copyright. It does not matter if it is a mathematical construct or not. Nintendo has it as a logo. Mitsibushi's logo is also a mathematical construct. It is no less copyrightable. It matters not if you created it yourself or not. If I recreated the Coca-Cola logo myself, I do not gain rights to it. Please see derivative work. I am once again changing the tag back to {{logo}}. If you fail to provide evidence that this logo has been released by Nintendo into the public domain, and revert this tagging, I will temporarily block your editing privileges. First of all, let me say that you've done some awesome work with the Streetlight Manifesto page. I love this band, and I just saw them a few weeks ago when they were in town. When reverting vandalism, it is a good idea to check back several edits to make sure you revert all of the vandalism. I reeeeeeally don't think that was vandal, OK!? They guy made the change and stated that this was a better translation of the Japanese word. Vandal or not? How should I know!? So I am supposed to assume good faith, OK!? Vandal is like when the guy before him educated us in the letters of the english alphabet...

And oh, I think there are like 200-300 policies in Wikipedia that state you shouldn't use words like "completely suck" when you talk to other wikipedians. But I wouldn't count on you changing that behaviour any time soon.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
