Nationality and name meaning
[edit]Dutch? I got the impression they were from all over the world. And since when were there ever six of them? Other sources give there as being only four, and this is backed up by a quick search on Google Images. -- Smjg 18:04, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- The Two members Mark and Lynn were temporary. When the vengaboys went their seperate ways Kim and Roy continued to tour Clubs across Europe. I went to see them myself in 2002. Mark and Lynn were replacements for the other two. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.107.79.174 (talk) 15:13, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
And I've always wondered why they're called "Vengaboys" considering that they're a mixed group. My first thought was that maybe "vengaboy" was a word with no direct connection to "boy", just as "talisman" isn't related to "man". Since then I heard on some television programme that they got their name from "venga" meaning "come" in Spanish or something, but didn't catch an explanation of the "boys" bit. Can anyone enlighten? -- Smjg 18:04, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- See the Members section of the article. Wessel van Diepen, Dennis van den Driesschen, Denise van Rijswijk and Yorick Bakker are certainly all Dutch. I asume Robin Pors, Kim Sasabone, Roy Darman are too. So yes, they really are Dutch. What the section doesn't make clear is that Wessel and Dennis are the producers, the others are 'singers'. And yes there were four members, because Yorick replaced Robin (see the dates behind their names). I don't know where they got their name, so I can't help you with that. -- Sander 08:40, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I've tried to clarify this in the text - and updated it based on the references I found. There are some references on the web to some of the band members being of various nationailties, but all meeting in Europe, but it is not clear from what I've found who's who. I have no idea why Vengaboys. Scottkeir 10:52, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
- In official bio's four different nationalities were mentioned, but this was just meant to mystify, to give the band a more exotic touch. Even in Dutch tv-programmes the members didn't talk, or they talked English. Later they all appeared to be Dutch. 82.175.5.157 11:28, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
Pronounced with a B?
[edit]I know it's been almost settled that "Vengaboys" comes from the spanish word "venga" meaning "come on", right? But that does not mean it has to be pronounced with a 'B' or that the name is 'commonly misspelled', as it's been written in the article recently. In the song "Ho Ho Vengaboys" the voices are chanting the name "Vengaboys" with a 'V', not a 'B', which I think indicates that is the correct, official pronounciation of their name! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.31.172.52 (talk) 19:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
This is false info: V is always pronounced as "V" in Spanish. Sometimes B is pronounced as "V". I will take this info out: it is irrelevant anyway because the band pronounces "V" as "V". 02:36, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
- It genuinely sounds like "B" in their live performances, especially in Kim's pilot-speaking parts from "We're going to Ibiza" but it's irrelevant in terms of this encyclopedic article.Mc8755 (talk) 17:49, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Clearly pronounced as "Bengaboys" in the song "We're going to Ibiza". Also in this 1999 Billboard article it's written: "Now the Vengaboys (pronounced "benga boys")..." --z33k (talk) 19:00, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
- Then somebody please change the phonetic pronunciation guide, which still reads /beŋ.gæ.boiz/, with a B. Nuttyskin (talk) 13:37, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Didn't sing the songs
[edit]They didn't sing on the songs, or at least Kim didn't, and she was the only one who seemed to 'sing'. It's not that uncommon really, especially with Eurodance acts, and not that unsurprising with the Vengaboys given that they also lied about where they came from.
It was just a Clever Plan..
[edit]Since the begining of the Vengaboyz, their whole history was a Lie, they even had to speak in English while they were touring in Holland so people Believed they were from all over the world...and they were just plain Dutch people wich were selected in auditions... so also this history of the Dj´s is fake... Well that´s Music INDUSTRY.... and of course they never song a song....all playback...
Key info in Party album jacket
[edit]I also remembered some members were from Brazil. I got that information from the album jacket. Unfortunately a friend borrowed it and lost it. It also had an explanation that "venga" was meant to translate from Spanish to "revenge."
Billykuerten 04:27, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- I find that unlikely, as revenge in Spanish is "venganza." --NEMT 17:36, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, but vengar is "to take revenge". Véngate would be "avenge yourself!", for example. However "venga" is also the subjunctive form of venir (to come), and used frequently as an interjection. Sounds much more likely. –Andyluciano 17:51, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- All four members in the band are 100% from Amsterdam, Netherlands.Mc8755 (talk) 17:49, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
Venga means...
[edit]Venga in spanish means "come", of course... but it's like saying: "Venga aquí, por favor" ("Come here, please" -adressing courteously, because informal form would be: "Ven aquí, por favor"-) I think the real sense that the guest-singer meant is: "Come on!! Let's party!!". This "Venga" is often heard in lots of spanish songs. So, a real meaning could be "Come on!", "Get up!", etc. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.122.246.57 (talk) 01:16, 24 January 2007 (UTC).
- There's tones of people saying "Venga" means different things...? :SMc8755 (talk) 17:49, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Venga also means "Come!" in Italian, as well as Spanish. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Disputed Song Writer
[edit]According to the "The Party Album" album cover the song "Up and Down" was co-written by Darman-Smith. This spurious reference to Gary Reddin (B.A. Mod) [whatever that means] is obviously a case of somebody abusing the honour policy utilized here at Wikipedia. It's people like this that give Wikipedia a bad name. Unless veification can be provided for this the moderators will be contacted.
- This is acclaimed songwriter Gary Reddin B.A.(mod). I am both shocked and appalled by the lack of respect shown to by exceptional songwriting talents. I have worked with numerous top bands over the years including Irish girl band Bewitched and the Scandanavia supremos, Aqua. Another one of my claims to fame is co-writing Vanilla's smash hit "No way, No way, Na na na na". This song is referred to by some people as, and I quote, "the greatest of all time". FACT! If verification of my talents is needed, then you can contact another hero of his time, Mr. J. Pepper, aka El Hadj Pepper and Luis Boa Pepper.
- Wha??!!!??? Don't know if the above is a joke or not (I also don't know why I'm reading anything about the Vengaboys!), but if real, VENGA!!!!! One can't be proud to have anything to do with Vanilla Ice, and why attch yourself to nobodies like Aqua or Bewitched? Well, I've just wasted two minutes of my life that I'll never get back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.80.9.114 (talk) 05:01, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Did this really happen?
[edit]Somehow I think somebody is making this up: "Steps, Nsync, S Club 7, Atomic Kitten, B*Witched and the Vengaboys all reunited in 2007 for a one off gig named The Battle of the Pop Bands."
I searched it on Google to find the only search with 'Vengaboys' and 'Battle of the Pop Bands' is the article itself on Wikipedia. Added a citation needed tag, ideally it should be deleted. (86.1.97.190 (talk) 13:40, 13 August 2009 (UTC))
Some self-promo?
[edit]I took out some unrelated babble about an Irish band called Beastmen that someone had tacked on to the bottom below the discography. It said: "Earlier this year the vengaboys helped Beastmen, a surf punk band in Ireland come out. Talks are taking place right now to take beastmen on their planed tour of Iceland, Greenland and Kerry." A brief search of Beastmen pages found nothing supporting this, so I removed it. bumpgrrl 174.114.33.123 (talk) 21:00, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Article Revamp
[edit]Okay, kinda just went ahead and threw loads into this... Got a pic up, it's not great but it'll do for now. Added tonnes of info, theres a lot missing in this article and there were some pointless things I took out... Anyone who has relevant information, please add it in, but not more rumors about new material. Rocket To Uranus is all that's confirmed to just leave it at that for now.Mc8755 (talk) 17:39, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
What were their best known hits?
[edit]This article says that the group were best known for the hits Boom,_Boom,_Boom,_Boom and few other hits, but when it lists these, it does not mention what I would have thought were the two best known hits by the group in the United Kingdom - Up and Down and Kiss_(When_the_Sun_Don't_Shine) ACEOREVIVED (talk) 09:58, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Major Updates coming soon
[edit]this page will be overhauled soon to get it up to date and perfect.
Museum promotion?
[edit]A significant amount of this article appears to be promoting a seemingly unofficial Vengaboys museum, including the first paragraph. The curator of the museum is also listed as a band member, which seems bizarre. Does a museum/fan site even meet notability for the article? If it does, seems like a brief mention at most. --Materra (talk) 23:37, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Looks like the text in the opening paragraph and website have been removed (thanks, anon!), but the museum curator is still listed as a band member and there's still a decent amount of text on it. Does the museum even meet notability requirements for this article in the first place? It looks like an unofficial fan project. --Materra (talk) 22:13, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
"Vengaboys Museum"
[edit]Mentioning the so called "Vengaboys museum" is highly disputable. First of all, it's a fan made website, not a real museum (despite the narrative the creator trying to tell). Also things like a fireworks show in Ellington (population: 1600) or buying optical discs to save Vengaboys video files are not notable. It's heavily sensationalized by the creator of the website, who appears to be a fan of the group and trying to get them to come to his place. --ChrisHamburg (talk) 11:31, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- The Fireworks he has been talking about appear to Legit... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWrUW3WJ9JA --67.140.65.164 (talk) 15:00, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
- I don't even know how to comment on this, the fireworks were blatantly created with a computer software, including stock sound samples of people cheering. And no matter if the fireworks are real or not, it doesn't change anything about the notability. --ChrisHamburg (talk) 07:10, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
"Vengaboys" or "the Vengaboys"?
[edit]Even if the article is not part of the band's name, how are they referred to commonly? Allmusic uses "the Vengaboys" on most mentions; references and press citations at the official website seem to be a mixed bag. Can anybody find something authoritative about the usage? —C.Fred (talk) 20:02, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
Ellington Vengaboys Museum Certification by State of New York and Mention by Vengaboys Themselves = Notable enough for wikipedia?
[edit]Ellington Vengaboys Museum has recently received certification from New York State to be a genuine virtual museum recognized as a virtual museum by the state of new york. (Yes virtual museums do indeed exist[1]) A video of this certificate and letter that came with it will be published soon to Ellington Vengaboys Museum. Also Vengaboys have also acknowledged the museum exists themselves[2]. This museum is waiting upon more mentions of its existence by Vengaboys themselves before attempting to get it into the Vengaboys wiki article because some strict wiki editors believe it is not notable and won't lift a finger to say the contrary without multiple orders from Vengaboys themselves signed in triplicate, sent in, sent out, subjected to public enquiry, lost, found, lost again, found again, and then finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters. - Signed: Ellington Vengaboys Museum Curator — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.69.123 (talk) 21:15, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

- Actually, no. We need independent verification of the significance of the museum. Information from an interview with the Vengaboys confirms the existence of a virtual museum but not its existence. —C.Fred (talk) 21:24, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
Would the state certification meet this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.69.123 (talk) 21:29, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hard to say. It's not clear what a state certification is. —C.Fred (talk) 00:53, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
it's a certificate that confirms that it is a virtual museum recognized to exist in the state of new york by the state of new york. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.69.123 (talk) 16:30, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Ellington Vengaboys Museum independent verification confusion
[edit]There is confusion among a few editors (C.Fred, Chris Hamburg) if the existence of a "Virtual[1]" Vengaboys Museum is notable enough for Wikipedia. the existence of a Vengaboys museum would be not any more notable than the pregnancy of a member of Vengaboys (which is listed in the Vengaboys wiki article[2]) and if it should be eligible for the wiki article even with independent verification
would certification as a virtual museum by New York state meet the independent verification requirements? (the state verification is a certificate and letter that was sent to the Museum by New York State that says the Museum is recognized as a genuine virtual Museum by New York State) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.69.123 (talk) 16:45, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

- That is not enough, because it's created by an affiliated party. The website needs independent coverage, like newspaper or magazine coverage. —C.Fred (talk) 18:07, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Vengaboys Museum Independent Verification
[edit]if news or magazine mentions is all the Museum needs to meet notability requirements, How about these then, Chris Hamburg thought none of these (which are all news stories and interviews etc. that mention the museum) were good enough to make it notable because he said "Yes, and assumably all of those writers used the Wikipedia article as their source. And not a single writer checked the facts properly, the museum is only a website, and not a real museum" (contact Chris Hamburg on this too)...

The Virtual Museum is only being updated to a new major revision which drastically improves it over the first edition content and scale wise, My Museum is one of a few in existance now that has been tied to the Address of the town of Ellington, NY itself (yes such a thing as a town address exists) and vengaboys opted for a virtual internet based only museum because the costs of running a physical museum usually exceeds $500,000 a month due to the bureaucracy involved in Physcial Museum Accreditation. - Cam — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.71.204 (talk) 01:30, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
Imminent Return of the Museum "Cult Leader"??
[edit]Moderators: you may want to keep a eye on this page because you may have to deal with a Museum CULT LEADER!! I have heard rumors from top level vengaboys fans about "The Vengaboys Museum" Curator planning a massive return of Vengaboys Museum and plans to get it on Wikipedia again too and have it so that it can't be censored easily... the fans i got this info from claim to personally know the curator and they claim the curator's Museum was attacked and shutdown by governmental forces because he holds knowledge on the proof of existence of Extra Terrestrial Life, some 9 crystals and some floating island and some weird stuff that can perform instant exorcisms called orgonite, and a whole lot of other weird stuff and he claims to say that an evil organization controlled by hostile reptilian extra terrestrials that controls most of this planet known by some as the Khazarian Mafia used paid trolls on not just Wikipedia but many places to attack and censor his Museum to prevent Vengaboys from Coming to Ellington because there they might see something the governments don't want people to see... recently he claims the governments pulled off a massive fake DMCA attack against his museum on YouTube, Facebook, weebly, twitter etc... and also had google remove as many traces of his museum as possible, and i think this guy is not bluffing, search for the museum on google and you get "nothing" nothing at ALL!! and my friend said the curator is planning a massive return for his museum when he launches Museum 2 and Wikipedia will be affected by it too and it will be very hard to censor when the time comes and also he intends to contact Vengaboys themselves and spread the knowledge so they will know about how the government censored him too... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.75.151 (talk) 22:30, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

is Google a good enough peer reviewed source for Vengaboys Museum?
[edit]is Google a good enough peer reviewed source for Vengaboys Museum? I'm talking this link here confirming it's existence

Vengaboys Interview valid enough to pass the peer review process
[edit]Rumors exist among vengaboys fans that the vengaboys museum curator is going to do a actual video interview with Vengaboys themselves where many fan questions will be answered, Would a actual Video Interview being done by Vengaboys Museum and it's staff involving the REAL members of Vengaboys themselves answering many fan questions about Vengaboys be valid enough to pass to the official vengaboys wikipedia page for Vengaboys history on their official wiki page in 2018 - 19? I assume it would be because it would be a primary source coming right from the members mouths.
PEER REVIEW NEEDED on this question. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.68.10 (talk) 16:21, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
- No, not if it comes from the Vengaboys museum curator. If the video were to come directly from the Vengaboys—if it were posted on the official site of the band—then it would qualify as a self-published source and being of limited use in the article. If the video comes from a source that does not qualify as reliable, then we can't use it. Similar things have come up when people have done an Ask Me Anything interview: an official transcript of the interview may be usable, but a screenshot of a single question and answer from the AMA is unacceptable. —C.Fred (talk) 00:13, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
The museum curator would be the one filming the video and asking the questions and you would mainly see video footage of Vengaboys themselves answering the questions as the curator read them off in the background, due to a exclusivity agreement between the museum and vengaboys management, the video would be published through the internet archive and the official museum page on Youtube similar to how the uncle john not filmed in jamaica video was published to the museum's official page on youtube. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.68.10 (talk) 19:26, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
- And we've closed the circle. We can't trust the video just because it's made by somebody claiming to be the curator of a museum with no independent reliable sources verifying its existence.
- I'll go one step further: an IP editor previously referred to this museum as "My Museum".[2] So, on top of everything else, we now have a conflict of interest situation. Accordingly, we now have to look at things through the spam lens: is somebody associated with the museum trying to get it mentioned here to drive traffic? —C.Fred (talk) 00:54, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Vengaboys

- No. There is underlying notability. The article needs repaired, not deleted. —C.Fred (talk) 20:22, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

- These cn tags are practically a joke. Someone needs a source to verify that vengaboys.com is their official website? It took me 10 minutes to copy-paste links from other pages, so these cn tags are mostly disruptive and unfounded. © Tbhotch™ (en-3). 02:47, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
